- Promoting capacity building to empower and enhance opportunities for community participation
- Working with partner agencies to combat issues of poverty, unemployment and housing issues through the provision of information, advice and training
- Developing awareness and capacity of all communities to tackle racism and promote equality and diversity
Pollokshields Development Agency (PDA) has a long and respected history of providing vital community support and services to the people of South Glasgow. They have worked with and on behalf of the diverse community of Pollokshields and the Southside of Glasgow for nearly 30 years.
Pollokshields Development Agency was formally established in 1989. Originally based in a porta cabin in McCulloch Street, Pollokshields, PDA evolved from a group of committed volunteers who came together to develop solutions to some of the local problems faced by residents of Pollokshields and South Glasgow. With support from many local people, community leaders and local Councillors, the agency grew to deliver the people-led services it is known for today.
Whilst the community itself and the services that PDA delivers have changed and evolved over the intervening years, the organisation’s priority of addressing specific local needs through user-led service provision has remained unchanged. Now a respected institution within the community landscape of South Glasgow, PDA manages and delivers a programme of in-house services as well as working in partnership with a range of agencies to deliver specialist provisions, all aimed at improving the lives of local residents.
PDA has become instrumental in bringing local people together, alleviating isolation, overcoming cultural barriers, supporting healthy lifestyles and encouraging lifelong learning for all in the community, from pre-schoolers to the elderly.
